Meet George

George McClellan and his family

After 29 years of service, George retired in 2023 as an Assistant Chief of the East St. Louis Fire Department. As the assistant chief, George was responsible for overseeing shifts in the workforce, grant writing, training, budgets, and operations of the fire service personnel. Whenever he was present on the scene, he was responsible for coordinating the ancillary services that assisted the firefighters and residents in mitigating the incidents. Working with these additional services has led him to form excellent working relationships with other departments throughout the metropolitan area, including MedStar Ambulance, Abbott Ambulance, FEMA, Red Cross, IDNR, St. Clair County Hazmat, and many different services.

George graduated from Rend Lake College with an associate of science in business. He later graduated from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (SIUE) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). As a nurse with over 25 years of experience, George has worked in several specialty units. These challenging assignments include the Emergency Department (ED), the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), and currently, the Neurological and Neuro-Surgical Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

George currently serves as the Vice President of the East St. Louis Branch of the NAACP, where he is responsible for maintaining and assisting with the various committees, coordinating with the executive team, and representing the branch in the president's absence.

George has been married to his college sweetheart, Melody (Coach) McClellan, for 29 years. He is the proud father of three outstanding children: Jasmine, Collin, and Logan. However, he is also the proud, spoiling grandfather of Ms. Jailand McClellan.
